Blockout Opaque Labels · Functional
The cheapest way out of an expensive mistake
The short answer: a coated paper carrying an extra opaque layer, so what is printed underneath does not show through — a wrong date, an old price, a superseded address, a translation for another market. It saves a print run of packaging for €170 per 100, and it is one of the most useful products in the catalogue.

The arithmetic
€170 against a reprint
A batch of five thousand boxes carries the wrong telephone number. Reprinting them costs several thousand euros and three weeks; covering the line with an opaque label costs €170 for the first hundred and a morning of work. That comparison is why this stock exists, and why it is ordered far more often than anyone admits.
The same material handles market adaptation without a second packaging run: one pack produced in volume, a small blockout label per country carrying the local mentions. For a small producer, it is often the difference between exporting and not exporting.

Getting it right
Three things that make a correction invisible
Cover the block, not the line
A label sized to a single line draws the eye to it. Covering the whole panel or a complete block of text reads as design rather than as a patch.
Match the background
The stock is white and opaque, but it can be printed in the colour of the packaging underneath — including a dark one — so the correction disappears.
Check the surface first
A varnished or laminated carton is a slick surface. Say what the packaging is and we spec a reinforced adhesive rather than letting the labels lift in a warehouse.

FAQ
Blockout — what customers ask us
Will the old text really not show through?
That is the whole specification: the paper carries an extra opaque layer specifically so that dark or coloured print underneath does not ghost through. An ordinary white label over black text almost always shows a shadow — this one does not.
Can it be printed in a colour to match the pack?
Yes, in full colour. Printing the label in the background colour of the packaging is what turns a visible patch into an invisible correction — worth doing whenever the pack is not white.
What if the packaging is varnished?
Tell us at the order. A varnished or laminated carton is slick, and a standard adhesive can lift in transport. We spec a reinforced adhesive for those surfaces, at no change in price.
Is it food safe?
The adhesive is food-grade, which covers a label on the outside of a pack. Where the correction concerns mandatory food information, remember that the label must stay legible and attached for the whole shelf life — which is exactly what this material is built for.
How fast can I have it?
Production runs 2 to 10 working days after proof approval. Corrections are usually urgent, so send the artwork and the pack dimensions together and we can often approve the proof the same day.
