Why it exists
The liner is the tool
A standard label sits on an opaque white backing. Peel it, hold it over a jar, and you are guessing — the label hides exactly the part of the container you are aiming at. On a run of two hundred jars, the result is two hundred slightly different positions.
With a transparent liner you keep the label attached at one edge, look through the backing, line it up against the seam or the shoulder of the jar, and only then peel the rest. It costs £33 more than the standard coated paper per 100, and it is the difference between a shelf that looks produced and a shelf that looks improvised.
Above a few thousand units the answer is a labelling machine instead — at that point the liner goes back to being opaque and the position is the machine's problem.

Clear liner — what customers ask us
What is a clear backing liner?
The silicone-coated sheet the label is stuck to before you use it. Normally it is opaque white; here it is transparent, so you can see the container through it while positioning the label. The label itself is an ordinary white coated paper — the difference is entirely in the backing.
Does it change the label itself?
Not at all. Same paper, same printing, same adhesive choices, same finishes. Once the label is applied nobody can tell which liner it came off — the liner is thrown away.
How much more does it cost?
On coated paper, £151 per 100 against £117 for the standard stock in one or two colours — about £33 on a small run. Compare that with the cost of re-labelling a batch that came out crooked.
Is it useful with a labelling machine?
No. A machine positions from the roll and never sees the liner, so the transparency buys you nothing. This stock is for hand application: small batches, launches, samples, market production.
Can I have it on other materials?
The transparent liner is offered on coated paper in this range. If you need it on a film or a textured stock, ask us — it depends on which liners run on the laminating line that month, so we check rather than promise.
