Grooved, laid or Tintoretto?
Three textures, three messages
All three are uncoated papers at the same price, and customers routinely order the wrong one because the three look very similar flat on a desk. On a bottle they are not similar at all.
Laid has fine parallel lines and reads traditional — an estate, an archive, a serif. Grooved has deeper, wider ribbing at a regular pitch and reads modern and deliberate, closer to an architectural surface than a paper. Tintoretto is irregular and felt-marked, and reads handmade. Same price, entirely different shelf.
Grooved suits designs with a lot of white space and very little type: the ribbing does the work that a decorative border would do on a smooth stock, and a foiled name across it catches the light on every ridge.

Hot foil
What foil adds, in euros
Gold or silver foil is an option on every textured paper in this range, and the supplement is the same across them: on a 55 × 70 mm label, +€195 on a run of 100 and +€208 on a run of 1 000. It is a fixed cost rather than a multiplier — which means it is expensive on eighty labels and almost incidental on three thousand.
Foil sits on top of the ribbing and breaks the light along every groove. On this stock more than any other, a small foiled mark beats a large printed one.

FAQ
Grooved paper — what customers ask us
How is grooved paper different from laid?
Laid carries fine parallel lines, close together, and reads traditional. Grooved carries deeper, wider ribbing at a regular pitch and reads contemporary. They cost the same, so it is purely a question of the message: an estate wine on laid, a modern skincare range on grooved.
Does the ribbing run one way?
Yes, across the sheet. We cut labels with the grooves horizontal by default, which suits a design read left to right; tell us with the order if your artwork needs them vertical. There is no extra cost either way.
Can I print photographs on it?
You can, but the ribbing breaks up fine detail and the paper is uncoated, so images look soft and colours sit back. The stock is built for type, flat colours and foil. If your design is photographic, use a coated paper and put the texture elsewhere on the pack.
Should it be varnished?
No. A varnish fills the grooves and flattens exactly what you paid for. Grooved paper is supplied unprotected — which also means it belongs on products that stay dry and are handled with some care.
How much does gold foil add?
About €195 on a run of 100 at 55 × 70 mm, and €208 on a run of 1 000 — a fixed supplement rather than a percentage. Foil is pressed metal, so it stays perfectly bright against the matt white, and it is the pairing most customers choose on this stock.
