Overprintable Polypropylene Labels · Overprintable rolls

For the crate that comes back

The short answer: white polypropylene printed by us in full colour, with a bare panel for your date or batch — and a removable adhesive, because this is the label that has to come off at the end of the cycle. From €214 per 100, the dearest of the three overprintable routes and the only one designed to be peeled.

The one thing worth knowing

Unprotected and removable is not a compromise here — it is the specification

A printed polypropylene is normally varnished or laminated. On an overprintable roll it cannot be: a coating over the free panel stops the print head marking it. So this film ships unprotected, and the adhesive that goes with that combination in our range is a removable one, at €214 per 100.

Read as a spec sheet that looks like a lesser product. Read as a use case, it is exactly right: a returnable crate, a tray, a rack that is relabelled every rotation. We print the brand and the fixed information, you overprint the content and the date, and the whole thing lifts off in one piece at the wash. A permanent version is produced on request — ask us.

Why this film and not another

Soft, waterproof, and made to be pulled off

It follows the ribs

Crates and trays are moulded, not flat. Polypropylene is softer than a polyester and settles onto a ribbed or curved wall instead of bridging it.

It survives the cold room

Condensation, chilled storage and a wet handling bay do nothing to it, where a paper label swells and lifts at the corners within a rotation.

It comes off in one piece

A removable adhesive lifts by hand and leaves the crate clean — no torn paper, no grey adhesive film to scrub before the next label.

Above about 80 °C polypropylene starts to move. Crate washers running hotter than that are a case for the polyester — and for a reinforced adhesive.

Before the proof

Two things to settle with us

Where the panel goes. Leave it free of ink and free of coating, sized on what your printer actually produces: about 40 × 12 mm for a date and a lot, 40 × 25 mm once a barcode is in there, plus 2 mm of margin. Send us a label from your machine and we place the panel around it.

How long the label has to hold. A removable adhesive is designed to let go — after a week it lifts easily, after a year it may need a corner started. If your crates rotate over months rather than days, say so: we quote the same film with a semi-permanent adhesive rather than letting you discover it at the wash.

FAQ

Overprintable polypropylene — what customers ask us

Why is it the most expensive of the three?

Because it combines two things that are each produced in short runs: a full-colour print with no protective coating, and a removable adhesive. €214 per 100 against €183 for the thermal paper and €173 for the polyester. You are paying for a label that comes off cleanly, which the other two are not meant to do.

Can I have it with a permanent adhesive?

Yes, on quotation. The online configuration pairs the unprotected print with the removable adhesive because that is the combination held in the range. Tell us the surface and how long the label must stay on, and we quote the permanent or semi-permanent version of the same film.

Can the printed part be laminated?

Not on this route. A lamination over the free panel would stop your print head marking it, and applying it everywhere except the panel is a separate production job — possible, quoted rather than configured. As supplied, the whole label is unprotected.

Which printer and ribbon?

Thermal transfer with a ribbon: like every film, polypropylene carries no heat-sensitive coating and stays blank in a direct thermal printer. Use a resin ribbon if the crates are washed or handled wet, a wax-resin if they stay dry indoors.

Will it survive a crate washer?

Up to about 80 °C, yes, and the removable adhesive is often what you want at that point — the label leaves with the wash and the crate goes back out clean. Hotter than that, polypropylene starts to move: take the polyester.
