The short answer: a pearlescent coating through the sheet gives a soft iridescence that shifts as the light or the buyer moves. Leave the paper somewhere to shine
The mistake is to cover a pearlescent stock in ink. Every printed area hides the effect, so a label with a full-bleed background arrives looking like ordinary paper and the buyer wonders what they paid for. The designs that work leave half the surface bare — a name, a rule, a small mark, and a lot of shimmering white.
Grey pearlescent is the quieter, colder version, at €236 per 100: it reads metallic rather than luminous and suits technical or masculine ranges. Silver foil on either stock is the natural companion, since foil is opaque and the contrast with the iridescence is what people notice from two metres away.

Pearlescent — what customers ask us
What makes the paper shimmer?
A pearlescent coating containing mica-type particles that reflect light at slightly different angles. The effect is physical, not printed — which is why it changes as the bottle is turned and why no CMYK build reproduces it.
Can I print photographs on it?
You can, but you lose the point of the stock: ink hides the iridescence. Pearlescent works best with a light touch — type, a mark, one flat colour — and a good deal of bare paper left to catch the light.
White or grey pearlescent?
White at €180 per 100 is luminous and warm, the standard for cosmetics and sparkling wine. Grey at €236 is colder and reads closer to brushed metal, which suits technical and darker ranges. Both take foil equally well.
Does it work on a chilled bottle?
Only out of the ice bucket. It is an uncoated paper, so condensation marks it. For a sparkling wine that will sit in ice, the wet-strength aquaproof paper is the practical answer, or a synthetic film if the shimmer matters less than survival.
Is a varnish a good idea?
Rarely. A gloss varnish adds its own reflection and competes with the iridescence, and a matt one dulls it. Most producers leave this stock bare and accept that it belongs on products handled with some care.
