Read this first
Twenty-four wide rolls cost exactly what thirty-six narrow ones cost
Printed tape is not priced by the roll. The press is set up for a surface, and it charges for the film it runs: 24 rolls of 75 mm and 36 rolls of 50 mm are the same 3 600 metres of film once the width is accounted for — so they cost the same €556, to the cent.
Which turns the usual question upside down. Do not ask which width is cheaper: ask which width your cartons need. A 50 mm tape seals a standard box; a 75 mm one covers a wider seam, holds heavier cartons and gives your design half as much again to breathe in. The bill is identical — you simply receive fewer, wider rolls.

The three tapes
Clear, white or paper — and it is not only a question of look
Clear acrylic PP, 32 µ
Your ink appears to sit directly on the cardboard: no white border, no visible film edge. Acrylic adhesive, water-resistant, and it unwinds quietly — which matters more than it sounds when someone packs two hundred cartons a day. Rolls of 100 m.
White PVC, 33 µ
An opaque white ground under your colour, so the design reads at three metres on a brown carton and covers whatever is printed underneath. The one people pick when the tape is doing the branding. Rolls of 100 m.
Brown kraft paper, 60 gsm
A coated paper tape with a natural rubber adhesive, chlorine and silicone free. Its real advantage is not how it looks: the sealed carton goes to paper recycling as one object, with no plastic to pull off first. Rolls of 50 m.
Three films, deliberately. Clear when the carton should show through, white when the print has to read from across the warehouse, kraft paper when the box goes to recycling in one piece — between them they cover what a packing bench actually needs. A longer list would only slow the choice down.
The paper one, honestly
What we will say about the kraft, and what we will not
The verifiable argument is the recycling stream: paper tape on a paper carton makes one object of one material, so nobody has to peel a plastic strip off before the box is recycled. The adhesive is natural rubber, and the paper is coated without chlorine or silicone.
What you will not read here is that it is « biodegradable » or « eco-friendly ». Plenty of paper tapes are sold under those words; French law forbids the first on packaging and, from 27 September 2026, European law treats unsubstantiated green claims as unlawful — as our own guide on environmental claims explains. We are not going to print on your cartons a word we tell you not to print on your labels.
The other half of the honesty is the price. Kraft rolls are 50 m, not 100, so a metre of paper tape costs about twice a metre of film. It is a deliberate choice, not a saving.

Artwork
Your design is a loop, not a rectangle
Tape is printed from a cylinder, so your artwork is repeated end to end along the whole hundred metres. The repeat length is 30.06 cm — the circumference of that cylinder — and your design has to work when it meets itself.
In practice that means three things. Leave the ends of the design compatible, so the joint is not a visible seam every thirty centimetres. Keep the important element — the logo, the name — well inside the width, because a tape applied by hand rarely lands perfectly straight. And remember there is only one ink: contrast does the work that colour usually does.

⚠️ Read the last column before comparing the three. Film rolls hold 100 m, kraft rolls 50 m — so at 36 rolls you are choosing between 3 600 m of film and 1 800 m of paper. Per metre that is 13 cents on clear PP, 15 cents on white PVC and 31 cents on kraft, and at the largest run 5, 8 and 12 cents. A standard carton takes about a metre.
Being straight about it
Two cases where printed tape is the wrong answer
You ship a few hundred parcels a year. The minimum is 1 800 to 3 600 metres, and tape does not keep forever — the adhesive ages. Below roughly two thousand cartons a year, a plain tape plus a printed label on the box costs less and looks better.
You need it next week. Tape runs on a 15 working-day cycle, against 2 to 10 for labels. There is no fast track: it is a different press with a different queue. A large printed label applied over a plain seal is the honest stopgap.
Where printed tape earns its place is repetition: a warehouse sealing hundreds of cartons a day, where every box leaves carrying your name for about five to eight cents of film per parcel — and where a sealed, branded carton is also visibly harder to open unnoticed.

Printed tape — what customers ask us
What is the minimum order for printed tape?
36 rolls in 50 mm or 24 rolls in 75 mm — the same surface either way, because the press is set up for a surface and not for a number of rolls. On film that is 3 600 metres from €482; on kraft, whose rolls hold 50 m, it is 1 800 metres from €561. It is the honest reason printed tape only makes sense once you ship regularly.
Why do 24 wide rolls cost the same as 36 narrow ones?
Because the price follows the surface printed, not the number of rolls. 24 rolls of 75 mm and 36 rolls of 50 mm are the same 3 600 metres of film once you account for the width, so they cost exactly the same. Choose the width your cartons need — it does not change the bill, only how many rolls you receive.
How many colours can I print?
One Pantone colour, which is the standard for packing tape and the reason it stays affordable. A logo, a name, a warning and a website fit comfortably in one ink. Photographic or four-colour designs are a different product and are quoted separately.
How long can my design be?
Up to 30.06 cm, which is the circumference of the printing cylinder. Your artwork is repeated end to end along the whole roll, so it has to work as a loop: a design that reads well when it meets itself every 30 centimetres, with no obvious seam.
