What actually fails
It is not the adhesive, it is the memory of the film
Squeeze a bottle and the label is asked to compress on one side and stretch on the other, several hundred times. A paper label has no elasticity: it creases, and the crease stays. A rigid polyester resists, so the stress goes into the adhesive line and the corners let go. Neither failure looks like what it is — both get reported as « the labels are coming off ».
Soft polyethylene has enough give to follow the deformation and enough memory to lie flat afterwards. Pair it with a permanent adhesive and the label survives the whole life of the pack, including the last squeeze when the bottle is folded in half to get the end out.

Designing for a moving surface
Three rules that survive the squeeze
Keep away from the pinch
Leave the label off the panel the hand grips. Even a forgiving film ages faster where it is folded twice a day.
Round the corners
A square corner is where lifting starts. Rounded corners cost nothing here and add years on a flexible container.
Avoid huge solid blocks
A heavy ink coverage stiffens the surface slightly. On a squeezed bottle, an open design flexes better than a fully covered one.

FAQ
Squeezable packs — what customers ask us
Why does my current label crease?
Because it has no elasticity. Paper and rigid films cannot follow the deformation of a squeezed container: the paper creases permanently, the rigid film transfers the stress to the adhesive and lifts at the corners. A soft polyethylene absorbs the movement instead.
Is it waterproof?
Yes — it is a film, so a bathroom, a kitchen and a wet hand are no problem. The matt grade is uncoated, so if the label is scrubbed regularly rather than just handled, ask for a protected film instead: see protected polyethylene at £170.
Does it work on tubes as well as bottles?
Yes, with the same caution: keep the label off the area that gets folded flat as the tube empties. On a tube, a narrower label placed towards the shoulder outlives a full-height one every time.
Which adhesive?
Permanent. On a surface that keeps moving, a removable adhesive is asking to be removed — and there is rarely a reason to take the label off a squeezable pack.
Can I have a gloss finish?
The matt grade is what gives the softness. For a gloss look on a flexible pack, white polypropylene with a gloss lamination is the practical route — slightly less forgiving than PE, but fine on gentle deformation. See white polypropylene.
