The one thing worth knowing
Choose the adhesive on a hundred labels and it is free. Choose it on three thousand and it is £18.
At 100 labels the three adhesives sit within a euro of each other — £56 permanent, £56 removable, £56 high-tack — so the decision costs nothing and should be made purely on the surface. At 3 000 the same three are £78, £92 and £96: the removable and the high-tack carry a real premium, because they are coated in shorter runs.
Which means the useful discipline is to test the adhesive on a small order — where it is free — rather than discover on a full run that a permanent label will not come off a returnable crate, or that a removable one has let go in a cold room.

Picking one
What each adhesive is actually for
Permanent
Bottles, jars, tubs, packaging that is thrown away or recycled with the label on it. It bonds within minutes and is not meant to come off in one piece.
Removable
Returnable crates, trays, sample containers, anything relabelled every cycle. It lifts by hand without tearing and leaves the surface clean — see the four ways to come off.
High-tack
Textured plastic, powder-coated metal, recycled board, cold or slightly oily surfaces. It grabs where a standard adhesive only touches the high points.
Where it sits in the range
Waterproof at the price of a paper
Polypropylene is the middle ground of the blank range: £56 against £55 for coated paper at a hundred labels, and it does not turn to pulp in a fridge, a bathroom or a splash of washing-up water. Against a polyester at £58, it is softer, it follows a curved bottle more willingly, and it costs less at volume — £78 against £118 at three thousand.
What it does not do is heat and solvents. Above roughly 80 °C polypropylene starts to move, and strong solvents attack it where a polyester shrugs. For machine plates, chemical drums and anything warm, take the polyester.

FAQ
Blank polypropylene — what customers ask us
Why does the removable adhesive cost more at 3 000 but not at 100?
Because a hundred labels are almost entirely setup: whatever the coating, the price barely moves. Past a thousand you are buying material, and a removable or high-tack coating is produced in shorter runs than a permanent one, so its cost shows. The spread goes from £1 at 100 labels to £18 at 3 000.
Can I print it on a direct thermal printer?
No — films carry no heat-sensitive coating and come out blank. Polypropylene needs a thermal transfer printer with a ribbon, and a resin ribbon if the label is going anywhere wet. With no ribbon in your machine, take blank paper.
Polypropylene or polyester?
Polypropylene for damp, fridges, bathrooms and curved packs, at £56 per 100 and cheaper at volume. Polyester for heat, solvents, machine surfaces and long outdoor life. The gap is £3 at a hundred labels and £40 at three thousand, in polypropylene's favour.
Is it food-safe?

Does it come clear or in colours?
